Figure 1 shows the initial map design for my game. I designed the level to gradually increase in difficulty.

This first section introduces the spikes and enemy obstacles. The first encounter with the spike obstacles is just a single spike on a platform and the first encounter with the enemy is just a single enemy at the edge of a platform. This ensures that the first encounter with these obstacles is easy and isolated from the other obstacles.
